چکیده

A methylene blue-mediated enzyme biosensor has been developed for the detection of inhibitors including mercury(II), mercury(I), methylmercury, and mercury–glutathione complex. The inhibition to horseradish peroxidase was apparently reversible and noncompetitive in the presence of HgCl2 in less than 8 s and irreversibly inactivated when incubated with different concentrations of HgCl2 for 1–8 min. The binding site of horseradish peroxidase with HgCl2 probably was a cysteine residue SH. Mercury compounds can be assayed amperometrically with the detection limits 0.1 ng ml Hg for HgCl2 and methylmercury, 0.2 ng ml Hg for Hg2(NO3)2 and 1.7 ng ml −1 Hg for mercury–glutathione complex. Inactivation of the immobilized horseradish peroxidase was displayed in the AFM images of the enzyme membranes. © 2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.

With a decrease in the dimensions of microbiosensors, the stochastic variation in the number of substrate complexes with the molecular recognition elements of biosensors (enzymes, receptors, antibodies, etc.) can lead to significant fluctuations in the output signal. In this theoretical analysis, the mean current, as well as its dispersion and correlation functions, are determined. ©1998 Publis...

A newly designed mass-detecting capillary viscometer is extended to measure the viscosity of whole blood over a range of shear rates without the use of anticoagulants in a clinical setting. In the present study as proof of principle, a single measurement of liquid-mass variation with time replaces the flow rate and pressure drop measurements that are usually required for the operation of a capi...

A conversational implicature is an inference that consists of attributing to a speaker an implicit meaning that goes beyond the explicit linguistic meaning of an utterance. This paper experimentally investigates scalar implicature, a paradigmatic case of implicature in which a speaker's use of a term like Some indicates that the speaker had reasons not to use a more informative term from the sa...

Measuring the satisfaction of constraints in fuzzy linear programming

The paper proposes a new kind of method for solving fuzzy linear programming problems based on the satisfaction (or ful/llment) degree of the constraints. Using a new ranking method of fuzzy numbers, the ful/llment of the constraints can be measured. Then the properties of the ranking index are discussed. With this ranking index, the decision maker can make the constraints tight or loose based ...

Fairing spline curves and surfaces by minimizing energy

New algorithms for the classical problem of fairing cubic spline curves and bicubic spline surfaces are presented. To fair a cubic spline curve or a bicubic spline surface with abnormal portions, the algorithms (automatically or interactively) identify thèbad' data points and replace them with new points produced by minimizing the strain energy of the new curve or surface. The proposed algorith...
